‘Blue Goose’ Redevelopment Includes Funds for Pond, Custis Trail, Metro Entrance

The developer that plans to demolish the “Blue Goose” building in Ballston has agreed to contribute more than $6 million to community improvements for the Ballston area.

The Shooshan Co. partners with Brandywine Realty Trust on Ballston office project

A developer based in suburban Philadelphia's Main Line is teaming up to help The Shooshan Co. build a new office building along the Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor's Wilson Boulevard. Shooshan has formed a joint venture partnership with Radnor-based Brandywine Realty Trust to develop 4040 Wilson Blvd., a 20-story building that will be the last addition to Shooshan's Liberty Center mixed-use project. Brandywine is kicking in $36 million as part of the deal, according to Brandywine.

Mike Isabella opening new restaurant in Arlington

Top Chef alum Mike Isabella next project will be a Greek restaurant in Arlington's Ballston neighborhood. Kapnos Taverna, a sister to the recently opened Kapnos on 14th Street NW in D.C., will open in the summer of 2014.

Shooshan Plans $200M Ballston Office Building

A pair of major Arlington development projects are moving swiftly through the county’s pipeline. The Shooshan Co., the developer behind Arlington’s Liberty Center (formerly Founders Square), applied Aug. 22 for building permits to construct a 410,000-square-foot office building, with 8,500 square feet of ground-floor retail, at 4040 Wilson Blvd. in Ballston.

John Shooshan Named Outstanding Philanthropist in D.C.

John G. Shooshan has been named “Outstanding Philanthropist” by the Washington, D.C. Metro Area Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.  He was nominated by Volunteers of America Chesapeake and the Arlington Community Foundation for his work on behalf of the homeless population in Arlington, Virginia.  

Taylor Gourmet heading to Ballston

Taylor Gourmet is opening its first Arlington location in the Liberty Center South development on Wilson Boulevard, according to building owner The Shooshan Co. The Philadelphia-inspired hoagie shop will take the prime retail space at 4000 Wilson Blvd., at the corner of Wilson and North Quincy Street, according to Kevin Shooshan, director of leasing.

Founders Square apartments in Ballston land financing

Arlington’s Shooshan Co. plans to break ground in mid-March on a 17-story apartment building at Founders Square, a 1.2 million-square-foot development near the Ballston Metro station that has been in the works since 2007. Shooshan affiliate Ashton Park Associates III LLC closed Feb. 24 on a $71.1 million construction loan to finance The Place, a 257-unit rental building slated for completion in 2013. Holliday Fenoglio Fowler LP directors Susan Carras, Walter Coker and Brian Crivella brokered the financing deal through SunTrust Banks Inc.

Ballston BID ‘Very Excited’ About Ballston Common Mall Redevelopment

A long-awaited renovation project is inching closer to reality for Ballston Common Mall. Mall owner Forest City Enterprises has been in the planning stages for major renovations to the 26-year-old, 580,000 square foot facility since at least 2010. Today (Wednesday) the Washington Business Journal reported that that the company revealed preliminary plans and renderings for the renovations at an industry conference in National Harbor.

Office of Naval Research reenlists for 5 years

The Office of Naval Research has reached a deal to stay at One Liberty Center for another five years under a lease renewal negotiated by the federal General Services Administration. The GSA awarded the lease renewal Wednesday to Ballston Investor Group I LLC. The contract price is $59.6 million. The Shooshan Co. developed 875 N. Randolph St. as part of its larger Liberty Center complex.
